Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir – one of Michael Cooper’s Super Classic Pinots, along with Ata Rangi, Felton Road, Fromm Clayvin and Dry River. Dry farmed, organically grown, first vines planted in 1978. The roots are down 3-4 metres- exploring virgin soils and supporting worms.
The resulting wines age beautifully and exhibit a luxurious savouriness.
At Neudorf our Pinots are bottled with no fining or filtration. Fermentation is spontaneous with natural yeasts from the vineyard and winery. Winemaker Todd Stevens had a gentle hand in winemaking believing that “less is more” and letting the wine be.
From the late 1980s our flagship Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir has been based on the original AM 10/5 vines of Swiss origin. As newer planting material became available from Burgundy through the 1990s this material was trialled as a “Neudorf Home Vineyard” wine and has recently begun to join the Moutere Pinot Noir as part of the blend. The wine presents a more supple style with fine tannins and enhanced finesse.
