Nelson Pinots took the top two places in an extensive overview of New Zealand Pinot Noir in the elegant magazine “The World of Fine Wine”, Jasper Morris MW aided by Anne Krebiehl MW and Joanna Simon approached 29 of the country’s leading Pinot producers. Their aim – to assess the current state of the Nation and attempt to determine the characteristics of the various Pinot Regions.
Nelson was represented by Greenhough Pinot Noir 2012 and Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2014.
And they took the top two places in the tasting (in that order).
Jasper notes – “Everyone wants a winner but the two wines from Nelson stood out beautifully for both class and balance.”
Joanna scored the two Nelson wines top equal – “I thought the two nelson wines were lovely“. The Moutere wine had “…expressive palate with dense pure fruit, coffee and delicate liquorice. Fine tannins and fresh finish.”
Anne also scored the two Nelson wines top equal. “The Neudorf displays fine seamless tannins, elegant crushed velvet in vivid, shimmering notes of red and purple.“
An outstanding result for Nelson – a small, brilliant, but often overlooked region.
