neudorf brightwater riesling 2010

“Neudorf Brightwater Riesling – sensational Riesling – fresh, intense – showing the potential of this undervalued grape variety” Joelle Thomson

Released August 2011

Juicy, succulent and exciting on the palate. We taste grapefruit marmalade with hints of Rose’s lime juice wrapped around a  nucleus of river stone minerality. It’s length is impressive and the weight is rewarding with just a touch of sweetness to tame the natural grape acid.

This is the sort of wine which converts non Riesling drinkers and affirms the rest.

Riesling brings out the best in fish, shellfish and most people. Drink now or hold off for a year or two.

Technical.

Grapes were hand harvested mid April from the Chisnel’s Elmside vineyard at Brightwater, and our Rosedale block at Neudorf.

The analyses at harvest were 21-22.4 Brix, 2.98-3.18pH and 8.2-9.5 gL TA.
The grapes were whole bunch pressed on a long, gentle press cycle.  The juice was cold settled and racked off lees to small stainless steel fermenters. A moderate temperature fermentation took place before the wine was chilled to stop in a dry style. The wine was stabilised for heat and cold, filtered and bottled in late October at 3.08pH, 7.1gL TA, 8.9 gL RS, 12%v/v alcohol.
