pinot noir

Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2009 “An impressive, complex and deeply structured Pinot that has a wealth of rip dark cherry fruit on the nose an array of fine ground baking spices some sappy bracken and fragrant elevated perfume. The palate’s got that engaging pinot thing going on where it’s dense yet fine; generous ripe red cherry and plum flavours roll through and some chocolate and spice, Supple tannins and convincing presence here.” Three hats 96/100
Nick Stock, The Age Good wine Guide 2012

Neudorf Tom's Block Pinot Noir 2009. "The wine is beautifully styled as usual, displaying red/black cherry, game, spice and a hint of cedar characters on the nose. The palate is fine and focused with elegant texture and well polished tannins providing a gently firm finish. Lovely poise and frame. At its best: now to 2016. 91pts, 4.5 stars."
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, Sept 2011

Neudorf Tom's Block Pinot Noir 2010. "Medium deep, ruby-red colour with a lighter edge and some garnet. This has a soft, full nose of savoury red berry fruits, fresh herbs and mushroomy aromas, well-integrated and totally harmonised. Medium full-bodied, this has bright juicy red berry fruit flavours along with complexing dried herb and undergrowth notes, all underlined by a core of supple tannin textures and balancing fresh acidity. Oaking is very subtle. The fruit sweetness is a feature as is the already savoury, complex secondary flavours which linger with richness on the finish. This has an approachability with stylish restraint that will see it keep well over the next 4-6 years. 18.0/20, Four Stars"
Raymond Chan Wine Reviews, Jul 2011

Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir Home Vineyard 2009."The flagship wine from Nelson’s top wine producer. Only made in best years (the last was 2006). The
wine is lavished with more attention than the top dog at Crufts. It needs time to
reveal its best. Drink: 2013–2022. 5 stars, 19/20"
Bob Campbell MW. Decanter June 2011

Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2009. "This is really, really good. Youthful yet complex and engaging on the nose, it displays dark cherry, game, floral and subtle earthy mushroom characters. The palate is concentrated, although not heavy, showing velvety texture and fine, chalky tannins providing a lovely firm finish. The wine is pristine and stunning, but it will be so much better in a few years. At its best: 2012 to 2020. 5 stars, 95 points" 628 cases made.
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2009

Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir Home Vineyard 2009. "This wine takes it to another level of gratification. It's simply stunning. The nose is beautifully ripe and complex, displaying red/black cherry, mushroom and game characters with discreetly woven vanillin oak. It's superbly concentrated and richly textured on the palate with outstanding depth and breadth of flavour, leading to an almost endless finish. Once again the tannin extraction is done to perfection, providing a lovely contrast to the sweet fruit core. At its best: 2013 to 2024. 13.5% 93 cases made. 5 stars 97/100"
Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, May 2011

Neudorf Moutere Pinot 2009 "Beautifully fragrant, deeply coloured, ripe, smooth, complex and expressive. Five Stars"
Michael Cooper, The Listener, May 2011

"The cheeky Burgundy analogy for me would be the ‘Moutere’ having the power of Richebourg, and the ‘Home Vineyard’ possessing the opulence of La Tache".
Raymond Chan April 2011

Neudorf ‘Moutere Home Vineyard’ Nelson Pinot Noir 2009
"Moderately deep ruby-red colour with purple hues and a pale edge, this has a full, rich, layered nose with brambly dark red berry and cherry fruits with complex dried herb nuances and violetty perfumes. The aromas are dense and powerfully expressed. Medium full-bodied on palate, this is a fulsome, densely presented wine with richness and concentration, yet retains a remarkable sense of stylishness and elegance. There is an openness and approachability, with the appealing sweetness of the dark berry and cherry fruit the highlight. This is balanced by fine-grained, but significant tannins. The wine finishes with real length. This is a wonderful, hedonistic, single-site expression that will drink with immense pleasure over the next 6-8+ years. 100 cases made. 19.5/20 Five Stars"
Raymond Chan April 2011

Neudorf ‘Moutere’ Pinot Noir 2009
"Moderately full, deep, dark ruby-red in colour with youthful purple hues, this has a very elegant, refined bouquet of beautifully perfumed red and dark berry fruits, dark red florals with a little oak lift. Still tight, this is quite ethereal on nose and promises to open out. Very finely constructed on palate, the flavours of dark red berries and cherries are somewhat restrained at present, but excellent concentration is apparent with underlying power, depth and weight. The wine also features silken textures from very fine-grained tannin extraction and acidity providing excellent tension and vibrancy. The finish is long, fine, stylish and dry. Another two years will see it to open up, and it will drink extremely well over the following 5-7 years. 19.0/20 Five Stars"

Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2009 “Wild strawberries, complex, earthy gamey characters with a silky smooth texture and dry mineral finish”

Peter Forrestal, Australian Gourmet Wine Traveller March 2011.

Neudorf Moutere Home Vineyard Pinot Noir 2009. “Similar in style to the Moutere vineyard Pinot Noir but with slightly more weight and intensity. Delicate red berry/cherry/strawberry and floral/violet flavours supported by peppery tannins. A taut and youthful wine with obvious cellaring potential” 94/100, 5 stars
Bob Campbell MW

Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2008. "Elegant pinot noir ruby. Oh boy, is this fragrant and floral, there is almost a Musigny-like quality to this quintessentially pinot noir varietal bouquet. The floral components have a light fraction to them, as well as sensuous boronia and dark red roses, fruit is red cherry grading to black, and even on bouquet, it smells rich. The palate is wonderful: taste this alongside the Rousseau Gevrey-Chambertin Cazetiers, which it resembles in some ways, and the vastly richer fruit is a standout. This is clearly a grand cru cropping rate wine. The absolute quality of the Nelson fruit is slightly different from the Otago wines, there being a fragrant hint of sweet leaf, like holygrass (+ve). Is this the best straight Neudorf Pinot Noir so far? There certainly have been some lovely designated-vineyard wines, but this is great. I very much like the way this label has evolved over the last 15 years. Memorable wine to cellar 5 – 10 years. Five stars, 18.5"
Geoff Kelly

Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2009 “Reasonably light in colour but with a haunting floral perfume and cherry, red berry and violet flavours with delicately drying and slightly peppery tannins. Supple, elegant wine in a bone dry and moderately burgundian style” 92/100.
Bob Campbell MW

Neudorf Tom's Block Pinot Noir 2008 - “Very pale ruby. Funky, herby nose. Very lively with a nice spiciness without being too specious. Lots of flirtatiousness. Good dry finish. Really positive.”
Jancis Robinson MW

Neudorf Tom's Block Pinot Noir 2008 - “Charming, classic Pinot Noir fragrance of loganberry and mulberry, with invitingly fresh juicy sweet fraise du bois on the palate and spicy oak undertones held in restrained check, finishing with good fresh acidity. Autumn game.”
Anthony Rose The Wine Gang UK

Neudorf Tom's Block Pinot Noir 2008 "... for more wallet-conscious diners like myself, I would strongly recommend the Neudorf Vineyards 2008 ‘Tom’s Block’, Nelson : toasty (and slightly cedary), with lovely scents of fresh cherries, plums, violets, licorice and spice; delightfully complex, balanced, and flavourful - 89+/100"
Julian Hitner- Sommelier Selects Ontario

Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2008. "A stylish wine that opened gently in the glass and over a day or two. Fragrant with hints of pepper, violets, spice and dark chocolate, this is concentrated, complex and harmonious with harming fruit, a silky texture and and a long, satisfying finish. It should develop with a year or so's bottle age - Five Stars"

Charmian Smith, Otago Daily Times.

Neudorf Toms Block Pinot Noir 2008.
"It is always one of my favourite pinots and the newly releases 08 is every bit as good as expected. Delightfully approachable and great value for Money.

"Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2008 - Dense, powerful and yet supremely elegant wine with an appealing mix of floral, red cherry, Oriental spice and spicy oak flavours. Complex wine that needs decanting to fully expose its range of flavours. Will cellar well. 5 stars - 95 points."
Bob Campbell MW. Australian Gourmet Traveller Wine.

"Neudorf is on my list of world class Pinot producers in New Zealand"
Tim Atkin MW

"2007 Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir-one of NZ’s most consistently lovely Pinot Noirs . Excellent density with red/blue fruit, red licorice, currant leaf, roasted red pepper skin, and red plum. Bold attack and penetrating length."
Evan Goldstein MS MW (USA)

Tom's Block Pinot Noir 2008. Delicious balance of opulent dark spice and liveliness. Textural wine with weight and lingering after taste. Five Stars and my Best Value Pinot Noir.
Charmian Smith. Otago Daily Times - January 2010

"One of New Zealand's best value examples of Pinot Noir is Neudorf's Tom's Block 08. Oodles of flavour, a drop dead gorgeous texture and a slightly rustic edge to help it stand out in a crowd. My wine match for the Christmas turkey"
Bob Campbell MW Air NZ December 2009.

Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2007 ” Serious stuff with a real beginning, middle and end. Great Pinot Noir with a bit more transparency and attention than many burgundies. Very good texture. Dry finish and layers of flavour. Gets better on the finish - always a good sign. But it would be satisfying to drink even now. Very long. 17.5 “
Jancis Robinson MW 2009

“Neudorf Tom's Block Pinot Noir 2007 - elegant, supple wine with surprising power as evidenced by its impressively lingering finish and teasing complexity. Plum, cherry, floral and wild herb flavours plus a suggestion of attractive spicy oak. Dangerously drinkable. 93 points”
Bob Campbell MW, Australian Gourmet Traveller Wine June 2009

Tom's Block Pinot Noir 2007:
Pure and vital, with crunchy, almost piercing levels of red cherry fruit that flow across the silky palate. There's added interest through the peppery dashes that come through on the mid-palate, and this Pinot, though young, is showing very well.
Decanter, June 2009

"This stunning Burgundian-style red from Nelson on the South Island is sexy and savoury with a delightful hint of barnyard. From low crops and unfined and unfiltered with a year in French oak and wild yeast ferment, nature has been allowed full expression. Mellow with silky tannins, you'd pay twice as much for this quality from France."
Margaret Swaine, National Post, Ontario, 2009

"My personal favourite - the South Island’s beautiful Nelson region Neudorf 2007 Tom’s Block Pinot Noir. It has a surprisingly deep intense purple colour and a complex, intense, spicy, bright, black cherry purée nose with some vanilla stick notes. On the palate, it is dry, gently complex and quite smooth with medium-full bodied, nicely structured, refined, ripe black cherry purée flavours with a long, lingering finish. Aged 11 months in French oak, only 1170 cases produced. It received a 3 star (out of 3) rating and some 200 cases are available".
Michael Vaughan, Vintage Assessments, Ontario

"The 2007 Neudorf Pinot Noir Moutere is such an aromatic wine; red cherry, violets, some savoury leathery complexity. The palate is sweetly fruited with intensity and length yet sacrifices nothing in terms of delicacy. Lovely silken tannins. Indeed freshness is the most delicious aspect of this pinot - it is very light on its feet."

Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2007 - “Elegant wine with good fruit power. A very linear wine with an impressively long finish. A nice mix of cherry, plum, spice and savoury, mineral/earthy flavours. Complex wine with excellent cellaring potential. 93 points”
Bob Campbell MW, June 2009

"Neudorf Tom's Block 07 is a pinot noir with more wow factor than most. Made from a small crop of pinot noir grapes picked from their Moutere and Brightwater vineyards in Nelson, this red then spent a year in French oak where it mellowed, gaining spicy flavours and softness. It’s a great pinot noir for its price, eclipsing many that cost twice this amount."
Joelle Thompson, Mindfood, March 09

"Neudorf Tom's Block Pinot Noir 2007 - scented, silky-smooth Nelson red with deep strawberry and spice flavours, a savoury, earthy complexity and great charm.” Five Stars. NZ Listener March 2009
Michael Cooper.

"New Zealand may more than match Burgundy between 9.99 pounds and 20 pounds but it has not yet done so at the highest Level. Felton Road's Block 3 and Neudorf Moutere come close."
Tim Atkin
UK Observer

Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2006 - "Powerful and elegant with exciting aromas of crushed cherries, mushrooms and smoky bacon. Five Stars. New Zealand's classic Pinots are from Ata Rangi, Schuster, Fromm, Felton Road and Neudorf."
Stephen Bennet MW,
North and South (NZ)

"The 2006 Neudorf Pinot Noir Moutere Home Vineyard is a little more shy; the fruit spectrum is darker; blueberry, doris plum and morello cherry yet still retaining a lovely floral lift. A bigger, fuller wine with density and weight. Oak is there to support the fruit, giving a faint cinnamon and nutmeg background, but its influence is subtle. A multi layered wine, that changes and evolves in the glass. 18.5/20 points"
Jane Skilton MW

"There is none more elegant than Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir; the dedicated and passionate owners Tim and Judy Finn coaxing the essence and metaphysical "pinosity" out of Pinot Noir, the Antipodean equivalent of Chamboille-Musigny, and currently my favourite wine of this style in the Southern Hemisphere."
Curtis Marsh, Hong Kong Standard

Neudorf Tom's Block Pinot Noir 2005 - "Initially overshadowed by the majestic Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir, this wine now stands as one of our great value Pinots. Youthful but intense with layers of plums and cherries rounded out with warm, spicy notes."
Don Higgins,
NZ Home and Garden

Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2005 - "Powerful aromas of dark berry fruit and cherries. There's lots on offer in this distinctive Neudorf Pinot, layered with game meats, roasted spice, earthy and smoky notes. Full and intense palate. It will evolve superbly."
Nick Stock.The Australian Sommelier.
