neudorf brightwater riesling 2008

Ethereal, elegant and graceful

I love the characters of this Riesling – citrus zest and lemon curd on the nose with an undercurrent of deep minerality. This gives the wine a strong “sense of place” – the gravel threaded soils of Brightwater carry right through to your glass.

A fine linear wine with delicate lifted character. It reminds me of Nina Ricci’s “L’Air Du Temps”. Other’s suggested a hit of Gin and Tonic! Perhaps that citrus splash carries a note of quinine.

Thirst quenching and moreish.

Technical
Grapes were hand harvested from the Chisnel’s Elmside vineyard at Brightwater (with a small portion from our Beuke’s Vineyard in the Moutere) at 22.2 Brix, 3.05pH and 9.15 gL TA.

The grapes were whole bunch pressed on a long, gentle press cycle.  The juice was cold settled and racked off lees to ferment in small stainless steel fermenters.  Fermentation was halted as the wine style turned dry. Bottled on 20/10/08 at 2.9 pH,  8.4 gL Total Acidity,  8.4 gL Residual Sugar, 12.5% alcohol.

“Neudorf Brightwater Riesling is a consistently rewarding wine, intense, and finely poised. Good vigour and varietal character, a tangy, tightly structured wine with citrusy, slightly minerally characters, lots of passionfruit and a fine sugar acid balance.”
