"... The palate is beautifully lifted, refreshing and transparent. Great poise. Lovely stuff!" - Jancis Robinson MW
Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir has a reputation for elegance and ageability. This vintage continues the evolution under winemaker Todd Stevens. It’s fragrant; expressing plums, exotic spice, cracked pepper, Horopito for kiwis, brambles, mānuka bark and wood smoke. It’s rich but not overblown. The tannins are finely tuned and chiselled creating a wine which is groomed and precise. The Pinot Noir story in New Zealand has been changing as vine age takes hold and we celebrate Pinot of true beauty and restraint. We seek a melange of perfectly integrated flavours. In the Moutere we are happy to see Pinots with a refreshing, juicy acidity. Definitely deserving breast of duck, rack of lamb or grilled mushroom.
Cellar with absolute confidence.
"Neudorf tend to stand out of the crowd from Nelson; exacting vision, great vineyard sites, solid winemaking. I do think, increasingly, Nelson is the dark horse for quality pinot noir in New Zealand, however. Lots coming through the ranks. Great zone for aromatic whites increasingly too."Mike Bennie
Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2016 - "Attractively-scented pinot noir with a mix of fruit (plum, cherry and dark berry), savoury (fresh herb) and floral (violet) flavours. An elegant, tightly-structured wine with a backbone of fine, drying tannins that should promote good cellaring potential. 93 Points."Bob Campbell MW
Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2016 - "Young, fresh, vibrant, varietal and enticing bouquet of Pinot Noir with aromas of wild flowers and red berry fruits, understated oak spices and a tease of toasted barrel, dried herb and an overwhelming sense of place encapsulated by a haunting steely & flinty allure. All these ideas materialise as flavours and textures on the palate. Dry, fine, chalky tannins and acidity to match. Flavours of light red fruits and tea, enante complexity and lengthy finish. 96 Points."
Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2016 - "A flamboyant style of pinot. Still very young, but shows great intensity with thyme, strawberries, plum jam and mocha notes. The palate has a lovely weight supported by firm but refined tannins. A celebration of subregional diversity." One of four Neudorf wines included in a list of only 84 of New Zealand's Fine Wines, chosen by Masters of Wine Alastair Maling, Emma Jenkins, Michael Brajkovich, Sam Harrop, Simon Nash, Steve Smith and David Allen along with Master Sommelier Cameron Douglas. Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2016 - "Pale garnet fading to ruby and a transparent rim. The nose is really quite intense and sweet, and then the palate is beautifully lifted, refreshing and transparent. Great poise. Lovely stuff! Already drinking well. Not heavy enough to stand up to hearty, very meaty foods but this would be great with fish. 17 Points."Jancis Robinson MW
Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2016 - "Typically a very classy Nelson red. The deep ruby 2016 vintage is finely scented and sweet-fruited, with rich cherry, plum and spice flavours, seasoned with nutty oak, excellent complexity and smooth tannins. A very harmonious wine from a 'forward' vintage, it's already drinking well. Certified organic. Five Stars."Michael Cooper
Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2016 - "Attractive, spiced berry and biscuit aromas with an array of sweetly fragrant red flowers and red cherries. The palate is lively, juicy and fresh and delivers an exceptionally elegant and focused array of typical pinot-noir fruit in an approachable, elegant mode. 94 Points."Nick Stock for James Suckling
Neudorf Moutere Pinot Noir 2016 - "Elegantly concentrated with layers of sweetly ripe dark-red and black cherry fruit entwined with dark plums, notes od spice and liquorice with dark herbs. The fruit forms a rich and succulent heart which is supported by supple, fine-grained tannin extraction with soft acidity, lending a degree of accessibility. The flavours carry to a long, lingering spicy finish. This is an elegantly concentrated Pinot Noir with seamlessly interwoven flavours of dark-red and black cherry and berry fruit with plums, spices and liquorice on a fine-grained palate of finesse. 19-/20."Raymond Chan
